Trust in Your Adaptability, Not Your Plan
One of the reasons I burned out was the lack of variety. Eight years into my optometry career, working at a relentless pace five to six days a week, I hit a wall.
I’ve always thrived on change — on trying novel things, taking on new challenges — and I ignored that part of myself for far too long.
At the time, I had no idea what my ideal life looked like.
I didn’t have a perfect roadmap. But I knew exactly what I didn’t want — to keep following the same path that was draining me.
Instead of waiting for a perfect plan, I believed in my adaptability and quit my full-time job.
Fast forward to now, I'm a speaker, podcast host, blogger, and travel optometrist. Expanding my professional identity beyond just optometry has unlocked more joy in my work than I ever imagined possible.
Trust Yourself!
Consider this simple metaphor:
The explorer doesn’t set out on his voyage trusting that the seas will remain calm and that he will stay perfectly on course; but rather, in his ability to adapt when the inevitable storms arrive.
You are the explorer, and life is your voyage. You don’t need to place your trust in the perfect plan — only in your ability to adapt.
Whether it's making a life pivot or a career shift, be the explorer:
Make a plan, set sail, and trust yourself.
You’ll find your way through!
