The Power of Five Minutes
Think of the last time you were doom-scrolling — an hour gone in the blink of an eye. Yet one minute waiting at a red light feels like an eternity.
The difference? Being fully present.
When you’re present, even five minutes can feel long... And in the busy world we live in, that’s a gift.
For years, I tried to meditate consistently, but I could never sit still for twenty minutes. I’d close my eyes, fidget, peek at the clock, and give up. After enough failed attempts, I finally decided to make it simple: meditate for just five minutes every morning.
That small shift changed everything & I’ve been meditating daily ever since.
"The 5-Minute Rule"
I started applying this idea beyond meditation. Instead of setting big, overwhelming goals, I tackle a task for just five minutes:
- Hate stretching? Stretch for five minutes.
- Don’t feel like going for a walk? Walk for five minutes.
- Procrastinating on a task? Work for five minutes.
What usually happens? Five minutes turns into more. But even when it doesn’t, those five minutes are still enough to make a difference.
Presence Is the Key
Here’s the catch: five minutes only feels powerful if you’re intentional about it.
A five-minute walk around the neighborhood is amazing when you leave your phone at home and focus on the world around you — the sound of your footsteps, the changing light, the cool air on your face. The same five minutes disappears in a blur if you’re walking while texting a friend.
Being present turns five minutes into something bigger. It transforms it from a throwaway chunk of time into an anchor — a way to ground yourself in a fast-paced world.
In fact, I even used this idea to craft an easy morning routine!
Just Five Minutes!
Five minutes doesn’t sound like much, but when you’re fully present, it expands. Presence matters more than duration.
You don’t need hours to live more intentionally. You just need to be present five minutes at a time!
